BOULDER – Denver East beat Fossil Ridge 70-49 in the Class 5A boys state title game Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
It’s the 11th state title in East’s history and sixth under current head coach Rudy Carey. The Angels last title came in 2008.
Playing on his future home court, Dominique Collier starred for the Angels. The CU commit scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Creighton commit Ronnie Harrell led all scorers with 20 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds for East. Jevon Griffin (14 points) and Tyre Robinson (13) finished in double figures as well.
Denver East (24-4) caps off a season in which they went unbeaten against in-state opponents.
Fossil Ridge’s only loss of the season just came at the wrong time. The Sabercats (27-1) were led by Alex Semadeni who had 15 points and he also hauled in nine rebounds.
Carey furthers his status as one of the greatest coaches Colorado has ever seen. He now has led nine teams to state championships; he won three at Manual to go along with his six at East.
