Former Asheville High standout Stuart DePaolo is part of a deep men’s open singles field for the 83rd annual City of Asheville Open.
Matches begin Friday morning at the Aston Park Tennis Center and run through July 20.
DePaolo is a rising junior at the University of North Carolina and seeded 18th. He will not take the clay courts at Aston Park until Thursday for a 6 p.m. first-round match against Peter L. Brewer from Knoxville, Tenn.
Asheville School’s Eli Abernethy (No. 25 seed) and Carolina Day’s Cole-Douglas Fields (No. 23) are also entrants.
As a high school sophomore, DePaolo (10-2) was named the 2010 Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year and Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading Asheville to the NCHSAA 3-A dual team championship.
