The Roy C. Ketcham High School softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning on the way to a 10-6 win over visiting Arlington in Wappingers Falls on Wednesday.
Senior pitcher Casey Herzog scattered Arlington’s only two hits in her four innings of work, in which she fanned three batters and walked one in both teams’ season opener.
“She’s always very good, a solid pitcher in every way possible,” Ketcham head coach Nicole Oliva said. “We have the utmost confidence in her when she’s out there.”
Catcher Annaika Jendras was 2 for 3, including a triple, while driving in three runs.
“She did really well behind the plate,” Oliva said, “and she was seeing the ball really well when she was hitting.”
Andrea Bombace was “able to turn on the pitch if she had to,” Oliva said, on the way to a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Teammate Emma Savas was also 2 for 3, including a double, knocking home two runs.
“She hit the ball really well. They were solid line drives in the gap,” Oliva said.
Two Admirals finished with one hit apiece.
Ketcham, which committed four errors, travels to Saugerties Friday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
