WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Chazz Surratt threw for a score and ran for another to help East Lincoln beat Washington 14-13 on Saturday in the Class 2-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.

Surratt ran for a 6-yard score in the second quarter then threw the go-ahead 9-yard touchdown pass to Coleton Banks with 8:50 left, helping East Lincoln (16-0) win a second state title in three seasons.

Surratt was named the game’s most valuable player, rushing for 75 yards and throwing for 212.

Xzavier Clark and Stepfon Rodman each ran for scores for Washington (14-2), which was playing in its first state final.

The Pam Pack led 13-7 on Clark’s 2-yard scoring run late in the third quarter. But after falling behind, Washington twice went three-and-out while its final drive never reached midfield before time expired.

Markel Spencer ran for a game-high 111 yards for Washington, while Clark finished with 100.
