Eastern High shooting guard Cameron Reed received his first scholarship offer this month from the University of New Orleans.
The 6-foot-5 Reed, a sharpshooter who was the Eagles’ leading scorer last year at 14.8 points per game, could receive a home visit from the Privateers’ coaches in a few weeks when they come to town to watch him play for the Louisville Magic in the AAU National Championships.
“They said Cameron is their top recruit at shooting guard,” his father, David Reed, said. “They like his length. Obviously they like his ability to shoot, and they like how he can create his own shot. … They like how Cameron pushes the ball ahead. They like his range. He’s got excellent range.”
David Reed said his son is also being heavily recruited by Wright State and appears close to an offer. Cameron Reed has participated in Wright State’s elite camp the past two years.
Texas Tech and Morehead State have called to inquire about Reed, and Colgate has sent him mail.
Reed shot 40 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent at the free-throw line last season, and he and center Trey Moses, who has offers from Winthrop and Northern Kentucky, will be leaders for Eastern this season.
