Appearances by women’s basketball star Elena Delle Donne and Eagles coach Chip Kelly will highlight the 15th annual Blue-Gold all-star high school basketball games on March 15 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The games are organized by and benefit Best Buddies Delaware, which helps provide friendship and job opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The games showcase the top senior players in Delaware.
The week will kick off with practices for the Blue boys and girls teams at Sanford School and the Gold boys and girls teams at Wesley College at 6 p.m. March 11. All of the teams will be in Dover on March 12 to attend a Superior Court presentation led by judge Robert Young, have lunch with Attorney General Beau Biden and meet with state legislators and Gov. Jack Markell.
The All-Star banquet for players, families and friends will be held at 6 p.m. March 13 at Dover Downs. Tickets are $27 and must be ordered by March 4.
On March 15, the Blue-Gold girls game will tip off at 1:30 p.m., with Kelly, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and members of the Eagles attending a reception in the Blue-Gold Club.
Delle Donne will be inducted into the Blue-Gold Hall of Fame at 3 p.m., followed by a basketball game featuring Eagles players against local celebrities and sponsors. The Blue-Gold boys game will wrap it up at 4 p.m., featuring a dunk contest at halftime.
