The 34th Annual Avon Lake Knights of Columbus was more than repeat of last year for Elyria Catholic sophomore Stan Bleich, as he became a two-time champion and MVP of the tournament.

“He’s pretty much controlling the competition in his weight class,” Curiale said. Bleich had two pins and a 22-5 major decision before beating Rocky River’s Brad Sprau in the 126 pound championship finals 7-5.

“When I wrestle I like to put up as many points as possible,” Bleich said. “I don’t like to have to adjust to the other guy I want to do exactly what I want to do.”

As a sophomore Bleich has already been through two coaches, but he thinks Curiale is good for the future of Elyria Catholic. “I think he’s going to be good for us at Elyria Catholic, and you can tell he really cares about the wrestlers, and wants the best for us.”

Bleich after receiving his 1st place plaque and MVP of tournament said he really wants to thank his parents and coaches. “They are always coaching me and taking me places to wrestle.”

Elyria Catholic may have a small team this year, but Bleich will definitely keep his school on radar as he begins his road back to the state tournament.
