Blake Buckman fired a two-hitter to lead Evangel past Benton 6-1 in a non-district game Friday at Benton.

Chance Defriend led the offense for Evangel going 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBIs and Ryne Ray was 2-for-4. Buckman (5-1) was also 2-for-3 at the plate as Evangel improved to 15-7 on the season.

Jordan Shaffer had both of Benton’s hits in going 2-for-4 as the Tigers slipped to 15-8 on the year.

Parkway 5, Southwood 1: At Parkway, the Panthers stayed ahead of the pack in District 1-5A with the win.

Jon Kosetner (3-1) got the win on the mound for Parkway (12-11, 4-1). Kyle Laverdiere and Demetrius McAtee both had doubles for Parkway.

Airline 3, Haughton 2: At Haughton, the Vikings made the most of just two hits as Cameron Kyle’s single in the sixth inning drove in Zachary Beene with the game winning run in the District 1-5A matchup.

Andrew Maxey (2-0) got the win for Airline (9-12, 3-2) allowing Haughton just five hits. Cameron Taylor got the save, striking out three in the final two innings in relief.

Seth Ryan was 2-for-2 for Haughton now 10-13, 2-3.

Byrd 9, Captain Shreve 3: At Byrd, the Yellow Jackets got a complete game from Jeep Henderson to even the District 1-5A series between the two schools.

Henderson allowed just three hits and struck out nine and got offensive help from Eric Miller, who was 4-for-4 with a triple and Trent Touchet was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Byrd improved to 12-11 overall and 3-2 in the district.

John Parker Harris led Shreve (8-16, 2-3) with a double.

Softball

Haughton 13, Ruston 1: At Haughton, Anna Dies hit three home runs and pitched a two-hitter to lead the Lady Bucs past the Lady Bearcats in a five-inning game.

Dies finished the day 3-for-3 with home runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Lacey Dodson added a home run in the third inning in going 2-for-4 and driving in five runs for Haughton.

Byrd 7, Captain Shreve 2: At Captain Shreve, the Lady Jackets scored in each of the first six innings in knocking off the Lady Gators in a District 1-5A game.

Shelby Spruiell led Byrd with a double and home run in going 3-for-4. Hannah Ellis also had a homer and single and drove in two runs while Emily Daniel was 2-for-3 for the Lady Jackets.

Beau Chene 8, Northwood 3: At Beau Chene, the Lady Falcons fell despite Kelsey Baker’s 3-for-4 effort.
