Fair Park opens district with win over Benton

The Fair Park Lady Indians started their District 1-4A season off on the right foot Tuesday night, using a big second half and solid games from their two leading scorers to pick up a road victory, 49-42, over the tough Benton Lady Tigers at Benton High School.

With the game tied at 20 going into the third quarter, the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Tigers 29-22 in the second half to get the win. Top scorer Tyronica Foster led the way for Fair Park with 17 points, while Dominique Johnson fired in 12 as the Lady Indians went to 10-9 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Gabby Jackson led a trio of Benton scorers in double figures with 16 points while also ripping down a game-high 13 rebounds as the Lady Tigers fell to 14-8 overall (0-1 district). Madi Sessions dropped in 13 points and Brandy Harris added 10 in the loss.

Southwood 61, Haughton 54: At Haughton, the Lady Cowboys dashed out to a 26-13 lead after one quarter, then had to rally to take the District 1-5A opener on the road against a gritty Lady Bucs squad.

Chelsea Tieuel once again led the way for Southwood (15-6, 1-0 district) with 21 points, while Jaiylan Brown fired in 14 points and Michelle Parker dropped in 13 for the Lady Cowboys.

Haughton battled back to tie the game with three minutes to play, thanks in large part to the play of Chelsea Swint, who scored 19 points to lead the Lady Bucs. Mikayla Barber pumped in 13 points and Brittany Robinett added 10 as Haughton went to 16-6 (0-1).

Airline 55, Captain Shreve 25: At Airline, the Lady Vikings got a game high 19 points from Kei McCoy and Jasmyne Carswell added 10 as Airline improved to 11-9 overall and 1-0 in district.

Paris Coleman scored 14 points to lead Captain Shreve.

Loyola 63, North DeSoto 29: At Loyola, the Lady Flyers jumped out to an early 15-4 lead and never looked back, outscoring the Lady Griffins in every period as they coasted to the District 1-4A opening win.

Alex Williams led all scorers with 17 points as Loyola improved to 12-9 overall (1-0 district), while Amber Smith scored 14 points and Caroline Holloway added 11 for the Lady Flyers.

Carla Davis dropped in 11 points for North DeSoto as it fell to 6-9 (0-1).

North Caddo 81, Homer 28: At Vivian, the Class 2A top-rated Lady Rebels continued to assault the competition, opening District 1-2A competition by pounding the Lady Pelicans to go to 20-1.

Sumer Williams scored 21 points, Ledetriha Sheppard fired in 20 and Jasmine Thomas dropped in 15 to keep North Caddo on its roll.

Green Oaks 61, BTW 38: At BTW, the Lady Giants got 18 points from Princess Davis and Tyronecia Wilson added 12 in the 1-3A win. Green Oaks (16-4, 2-1) also go Janey Jones added 11 for the Lady Giants.

Kadeesha Gay scored 14 points to lead BTW.

Evangel 54, Bossier 42: At Evangel, Tiara Young scored 19 points and Rachel Johnson fired in 18 as the Lady Eagles (11-10, 1-1) evened their District 1-3A record with a home win over the Lady Kats.

Tiffany Lynn (14 points), Necka Lynn (12) and Gabby Mason (10) all posted double figures for Bossier (6-12, 1-1).

Natchitoches Central 53, Ruston 41: At Natchitoches, Princess Cohen and Gabriella Cortez provided a devastating one-two punch as the Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Bearcats to open District 2-5A play.

Cohen scored 23 points and Cortez added 21 as Natchitoches Central stretched to 16-4 overall (1-0 district).

Sunni McCallister led Ruston (11-8, 0-1) with 15 points and KeKe Wright added 13.

Stanley 80, Zwolle 32: At Stanley, the Lady Panthers remained undefeated, easily dispatching the Lady Hawks to go to 30-0 and 1-0 in District 1-B play.

Tasha Hall scored 23 points to lead Stanley, while Macey Nash’s 18 points were all on six 3-pointers.
