HAMBURG, N.Y.-No one on the Frontier High School football team will ever forget the 2013 season. The Falcons made it to the Section 6 championship game at Ralph Wilson Stadium where they lost to Jamestown.
This year the Falcons are looking to take it a step further. Senior center Blake Podger told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar “we made it to the stadium last year but we didn’t win it. So our goal is to make it back and you know actually take a step further and finally win it.” Another lineman Derek Dorr echoed what Podger said. “Obviously we lost at the stadium and that just motivates us ten times more than usual to just try to get back there. We’re doing everything we can. We’re going hard the first day and a half, we’re keeping the intensity high, flying to the football on defense and on offense we’re blocking the right people so we’re doing well.”
Guiding the Falcons fortunes this year will be Mark Privateer who moves up from the defensive coordinator spot which he occupied for the past three years. “We’re riding off that success from last year and these younger guys who were on that this team saw that success and they’ve been working really hard in the off season. We do bring back our entire offensive line and that is a huge asset to what we have so offensive and defensive line is back and intact and we’re looking for those guys to anchor us and to give us the success we need for the up and coming season.”
While the Falcons are strong in the trenches tailback Paul Brinkel returns for his senior season. He is taking on more of a leadership role telling Stu “I know that I have to teach all the young skill guys the plays and I have to be the leader so when we get down I have to help them get back up and when they need a big play they look at me to get it and I have to hope I can get that play or just let someone else step into that role and get some big plays for us.”
Frontier opens the season Friday night September 5th at home against Orchard Park.
