Fast start fuels Lomira's win over Kewaskum



Starting fast is a key to any postseason contest.

Lomira’s girls basketball team took it to an extreme.

The Lions jumped out to a 23-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and led by 25 points at halftime en route to dispatching Kewaskum, 49-29, in a WIAA Division 3 regional tournament game on Tuesday night.

Michaela Luedtke fueled the fast start for the fourth-seeded Lions, who will host Columbus in a regional semifinal on Friday. Luedtke scored 12 points in the first quarter and totaled 17 in the first half as Lomira grabbed a 35-10 lead.

Luedtke finished with a game-high 21 points.

Hailey Cole was the next highest scorer for the Lions with seven.

Kewaskum was led by Erin Matusinec’s nine points.

The teams combined for 42 fouls and 47 free-throw attempts.
