Rye Country Day had a big day against Horace Mann in fencing on Friday, defeating the Lions in four of five weapons between the boys and girls.
The Wildcats swept in the boys foil, 9-0, with Eric Duarte and Kevin Collado each winning three matches. Harrison Lee added two wins. In the boys epee, Marco Bohorguez won three matches, while John Ellis added two wins in the 6-3 win. The Wildcats boys fell in a close saber match, 5-4, with Josh Rivera and Max Van Paaschen each winning two matches.
On the girls side, Hanna Kopits took all three of her foil matches for the Wildcats, who won 7-2. Gabriela Vascimini added two wins. In the girls epee, Michael Katzovitz and Jess Cordiano each won two matches for the Wildcats, who edged the Lions, 5-4.
Following Friday’s match, the Wildcats program is a combined 56-27 and will participate in the Independent Schools Fencing League tournament on February 22. The all-day tournament is projected to start at 9 a.m.
