As rain forced the shortening of the annual Garden State Cup at Blue Heron Pines in Galloway on Monday, it was Peddie’s Kyle Sterbinsky who emerged as the individual champion with a score of 55 for 14 holes.

Sterbinsky finished two shots clear of Ryan Skae of Don Bosco Prep, who led the Ironmen to the team title with a four-man total of 239, two shots better than Bergen Catholic.

Among the Shore Conference participants, Southern junior Jackson Fiel, the reigning Ocean County Tournament champion, finished in a tie for fifth with a 59, while Howell’s Dawson Jones, winner of last week’s Wall Invitational, was tied for 10th at 61.

Wall was the low team among the area competitors, finishing at 271, while Southern and St. Rose were at 277.


TOMS RIVER SOUTH 12, BRICK MEMORIAL 11: Sammi Fernandez scored the game-winning goals with two seconds left in regulation, leading the Indians (1-1) over the Mustangs (0-5) in a Class A South game. Victoria Alvarez also scored two late goals for the Indians giving them a 11-10 lead in the second half.

Stephanie Corino scored her fourth goal of the game for the Mustangs will 11 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 11.

MANASQUAN 9, SHORE 8 (OT): Shae Cowley scored the game-winning goal in overtime, leading the Warriors (3-0) over the Blue Devils (2-2) in a Class A Central game. JoJo Reilly netted four goals for the Warriors.

Emily Resier finished with three goals for the Blue Devils.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 11, COLTS NECK 6: Dominique Anselmin netted four goals leading the Patriots over the Cougars in a Class A North game. Brienne O’Donoghe scored two goals and had one assist for the Patriots.

Erika Keselman finished with four goals and one assist for the Cougars.

ST. ROSE 18, HOLMDEL 15: Caroline Burns finished with a team-high six goals, leading the Purple Roses over the Hornets in a Class A Central game. Amy White netted four goals and added one assist for the Purple Roses.

Chapin Taggart scored her 100th career goal for Holmdel and finished with three goals.


RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN 9, JACKSON MEMORIAL 1: Colin Shea had three goals and one assist, Chris Sutphen had three goals and Dominic Padula added three assists, as the Bulldogs (4-0) defeated the Jaguars (0-4) in a nondivisional game. Jackson Memorial’s Troy Wolf had a goal.

RED BANK CATHOLIC 12, RED BANK 11: Brett Habich supplied four goals and two assists and Ryan Coolahan added four goals and one assist as the Caseys (4-2) held on for a nondivisional victory over the Bucs (5-1). Red Bank Catholic led 8-3 at halftime and Caseys goalie Matt Benjamin made 13 saves. Red Bank’s George Zackman had three goals and two assists and Jake Smolokoff had three goals and one assist and goalie John Pierce had nine saves.

MANASQUAN 11, JACKSON LIBERTY 5: Jarrett Birch had four goals and Blaine Birch had three goals, as the Warriors (4-1) defeated the Lions (2-2) in a nondivisional game. Manasquan’s Joe Murphy added two goals and goalie Tom Pollock made nine saves. Jackson Liberty’s Connor Moschetti and Joe Leone each had a goal and Christopher Mulholland made seven saves.


WALL 2, FREEHOLD 0: Brady Donahue had nine kills, two blocks and four digs and Chris Smith had three kills, two blocks and seven digs as the Crimson Knights (3-1) defeated the Colonials (2-3) in a nondivisional match. Freehold’s Nick Krauss had six blocks and Riley Shea had four kills and two blocks.
