First Coast's De'Andre Johnson named Mr. Football

By

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville area is home to Mr. Football once again as First Coast High School quarterback and Florida State commit, De’Andre Johnson, has taken home the award for the 2014 season.

The future Seminole joins Tim Tebow (Nease, 2005) and Alabama running back, Derrick Henry (Yulee, 2012), as the third Jacksonville area player to take home the award in the last 10 years. He beat out the other seven finalist, grabbing 181 total points and eight first place votes from the statewide panel of high school football coaches and media representatives.

Johnson, who also won the Class 8A Player of the Year award, completed 215-of-328 passes while throwing for 3,710 yards and an area record 47 touchdowns, a record that was previously held by Tebow. He also added 398 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground on his way to leading the Buccaneers to a 12-1 record and a Class 8A regional final appearance.

Johnson finishes his high school career with 11,697 passing yards and 154 touchdowns (131 passing, 23 rushing). He plans to early enroll at Florida State next semester.
