This year’s high school sports season will kick off in just a couple of weeks, and USA TODAY wants your vote.
What is the best boys sports program in the country? Five Michigan programs are up for the vote. The first round ends at 2 p.m. Aug. 26.
Here are the candidates, picked by USA TODAY:
Birmingham Brother Rice
The Warriors have won 64 state titles in its 53 years, including 10 in football and 20 in lacrosse. Brother Rice has also won state titles in baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, skiing, soccer, swimming and tennis.
Novi Detroit Catholic Central
The Shamrocks have won eight Division 1 hockey titles and three Class A hockey ttiles. They have also won three Class A golf titles and 11 wrestling titles. The Shamrocks also excel in football, capturing 11 state titles.
East Grand Rapids
From 2002 to 2010, East Grand Rapids dominated Division 3 football, winning seven titles. Overall, the Pioneers have won 11 state football ttitles. The Pioneers won three straight Division 2 lacrosse titles from 2007 to 2009. East Grand Rapids has also won 16 tennis state titles
Farmington Hills Harrison
Harrison won three straight Division 3 titles from 1999 to 2001. From 1982 to 1988, the Hawks won five Class A football titles. In all, they have won 13 state football titles.
The Big Reds have won 104 football games over the past 10 years, capturing three Division 2 state titles. In basketball, the Big Reds won the 2014 Class A title.
