Florida Air Academy junior Julius Johnson achieved a milestone Friday night, surpassing 1,000 career points, in a 71-32 boys basketball win against Jupiter Christian.
“It took a lot of hard work and dedication but I wouldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Johnson said. “My teammates played a big part in it.”
Johnson, a Cocoa native, scored 22 points and hit four 3-pointers.
He is the second junior at Florida Air Academy to break career 1,000 points. The other: Walter Hodge (’06).
Head coach Aubin Goporo said Johnson played well under pressure.
“I’m proud of him,” Goporo said. “Nobody deserves it more than him.”
Johnson and the Falcons (16-0) have their sights set on a state championship. Despite their undefeated record, the junior feels that there are still areas to improve upon.
“If we play good defense, we’ll go far,” he said.
Florida Air plays at Treasure Coast on Tuesday.
