THE WINNER: Kaylin Whitney
THE BASICS
School: East Ridge (Clermont, Fla.)
Grade: Sophomore
Event: Sprints
Height: 5-foot-8
Athletic achievement: She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.48 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.69 seconds at the Class 4A state championship meet this spring. Whitney also won the adidas Dream 100 with a time of 11.27 seconds, which ranked as the nation’s No. 2 performance among prep competitors in 2014 at the time of her selection.
Academic excellence: Whitney has maintained a 3.62 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of youth track programs, and has visited patients in the pediatric ward at Florida Hospital.
