Football: Dover keeps eyes on playoffs after loss to Burke

By

It wasn’t hard for the Dover High School football team to find its silver lining on Friday night.

Though the Dragons lost at home to Section 9 Class B Division II foe John S. Burke Catholic, 45-26, they’re one win away from heading to the playoffs.

Dover (2-4 overall, 2-1 league) visits Spackenkill Oct. 18 for its final league game.

Dover coach Chris Lounsbury said “a couple of touchdowns late” by Burke shrouded an otherwise competitive performance by his Dragons.

“I thought our kids played really hard, played physical and played right to the end,” Lousbury said.

And then there’s Dragons quarterback Dustin Bowen, who scored all four of his team’s touchdowns on the ground, picking up 207 yards on 28 carries.

Defensively, John Robles had an interception and forced a fumble.

As for their next game against Spackenkill, Lounsbury said “we just have to build off the way we played tonight and focus on executing that we do offensively and defensively. I think if we do that, it will give us a good shot.”
