From today to Saturday, the 2014 Force Five North American Championship will be taking place on lower Lake Huron.
Three days of racing are scheduled, with each race starting at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Gratiot Light Station County Park. More than 30 of the single-person boats are expected to race over the weekend.
For competing sailors and their families, there will be a list of events at Port Huron Yacht Club.
“We are honored to have been selected to host this prestigious event in Port Huron this year,” said race chairman and Port Huron Yacht Club member Philip Porte. “We’re looking forward to an event comprised of good people, competitive sailing, and a beautiful race venue, as we have an opportunity to showcase our great city and its tremendous natural resources.”
With the chance of rain heading into the weekend, there is a chance the races could be impacted, but it’s unlikely. In order for a race to be completely canceled, Porte said, it would have to be “absolutely pouring.”
However, if a race is canceled on any day, it won’t be rescheduled.
