Former Ithaca quarterback Travis Smith is moving closer to home.
Smith announced on his Twitter page Saturday evening that he was transferring from Wake Forest to Eastern Michigan and posted a picture of himself with Eagles coach Chris Creighton.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Smith was one of two quarterbacks that was part of Wake Forest’s 2014 recruiting class. He decided to leave the program in September.
Smith, who was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2013, originally was committed to Toledo before changing to Wake Forest last January. He played a large role in Ithaca’s 69-game winning streak and was 41-0 as a starting quarterback while leading the Yellowjackets to three straight state titles.
Eastern Michigan went 2-10 (1-7 Mid-American Conference) this fall under Creighton, who was in his first year leading the program.
