When the Valders and Brillion boys basketball teams square off on Friday, both sides will be jockeying for position in a tough Olympian Conference.
The Vikings (7-1, 5-1 OC) are one of three teams, along with the Lions (8-1, 6-0) and Roncalli (8-1, 6-0), within a game of first place in the OC so Friday’s matchup could go a long way to deciding the conference title.
Leading Valders is Zach Goedeke, who is third in the conference in scoring at just over 16 points per game while Tyler Lemke’s 18.6 ppg for Brillion leads the OC. Goedeke is one of four Vikings to average at least 10 points a game, joined by teammates Thomas Schwoerer at (13.9), Forrest Fenlon (11) and Paxton Korslin (10.7) according to WisSports.Net.
The lone loss this season for Valders came at the hands of Roncalli back on Dec. 12, so a Vikings win would position them well for the Jan. 30 rematch with the Jets.
Another strong point for Valders is Goedeke’s overall game, averaging just under 10 rebounds per game while blocking four shots a game according to MaxPreps.com.
Should the Vikings get past Brillion, they’ll play Reedsville (6-3, 3-3) on Tuesday but then wouldn’t play another team with a .500 record until Jan. 20 when they host Two Rivers (6-4, 3-2 Eastern Wisconsin Conference).
