JaJuan Perkins knew immediately during his official to Charleston Southern last weekend that he wanted to play football for the Buccaneers.
“It was great, like a family, and they showed that they really needed me,” said Perkins, who selected Charleston Southern over FAMU, Middle Tennessee State and The Citadel.
The defensive back made it official when he signed with Charleston Southern on Wednesday during a ceremony in the school’s media center. Perkins, whose cousin Willie Simmons played quarterback at Clemson (1999-2002), also plays basketball and runs track for the Jaguars. He shared the stage on Wednesday with teammates Geomarey Smith and Derrick Kelly.
Smith, a defensive lineman and outside linebacker, signed with Division II powerhouse Valdosta State.
“It was such a great feeling when I visited the campus, I just fell in love with it,” Smith said.
Kelly signed with Florida State. Kelly received an offer from the Seminoles Tuesday at 11 p.m.
