Franklin senior shooting guard Luke Kennard tweeted he has been invited to the Nike Hoop Summit next April in Portland, Ore.
USA Basketball spokesman Craig Miller said the event is scheduled for April 11 at the Moda Center (formerly the Rose Garden).
The USA Junior National Select Team that competes in the Nike Hoops Summit usually consists of 10-11 players. Miller said USA Basketball plans to announce the full team in early-mid January.
Kennard, a Duke signee, participated in and won a gold medal won a gold medal in June with the USA Basketball Under-18 national team. He is eligible for selection for the 2015 USA U19 World Championship Team which competes next summer in Greece. Those selections will not likely be made until the NCAA Men’s Final Four weekend.
Kennard also figures to be a leading candidate for the McDonald’s All America Game which is played in April in Chicago. Those selections will be made in late January.
Kennard, the reigning Ohio Mr. Basketball, enters tonight’s game at Edgewood just 19 points shy of 2,000 for his high school career.
He averages 35.5 points for Franklin (2-0).
In fact, Kennard had scored below 31 points only twice in the past 25 games which included his entire junior season. The most recent time he scored under 31 points was Feb. 24 against Alter when he had 26.
Kennard entered the season with 1,910 career points. He scored 920 points his junior season, which is listed as No. 12 on the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s statewide list for most points in a single season.
The minimum amount on the OHSAA most career points list is 2,200.
