Joe Ellerman tossed six innings of two-hit ball and Joe Silvestrone drove in four runs, leading visiting Freehold Township past Rumson-Fair Haven 7-0 in a Monmouth County Tournament quarterfinal on Friday.
The Patriots (14-4) will meet Christian Brothers Academy 4 p.m. Monday in a semifinal at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. The Patriots have won 11 of their last 12 games. Their lone loss in that stretch was to CBA.
Ellerman added a single and scored one run. Joe Silvestrone went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. His two-out, two-run single in the fifth keyed a four-run outburst and put the Patriots ahead 2-0. He slugged a two-run homer in a three-run seventh.
Steve Derby stroked three hits in four at-bats, scored two runs and drove in one. Chris Talbott doubled, walked and scored a run.
SHORE 3, MANASQUAN 2: Senior Nick Blaney walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Blue Devils (11-8, 8-6) a win over the Warriors (7-10, 6-8) in Shore Conference Class A Central.
Andrew Schulz opened the inning with a single and stole second. Mark Cosentino was intentionally walked. James Kelly drew a base on balls to load the bases against Tom Toole, working his second inning of relief, setting the stage for Blaney.
Schulz worked 61⁄3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked two. Senior Dylan Vosk (1-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning. He entered the game with runners at first and second in the seventh and wriggled out of the jam with a popup and a groundout for his first varsity win in relief.
Vosk singled home a second-inning run for a 1-0 lead. Manasquan tied the game at one in the third on an RBI double by Toole. Shore went ahead 2-1 in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk to Clayton Coffey. Manasquan’s Matt Edwards tied the game at two in the fifth on a homer by Matt Edwards.
SJ VIANNEY 14, RARITAN 6: Evan Pietronico had three hits for the Lancers in a Class A Central win over the Rockets. Raritan’s Brandon Bentley had three RBI.
