Fox Valley Lutheran jumped out to a 12-point lead after one quarter and beat Freedom 48-24 in an Eastern Valley Conference game Thursday in Appleton.

“We definitely played really well,” said Foxes coach Dave Wenzel. “They struggled against our pressure and I was very happy with our defensive effort in the first half. Our offense was a little helter-skelter, but our defense made up for that.”

Abby Radue led FVL with 15 points.

“Tonight was Senior Night and for them to win the conference and finish undefeated in the conference is a cool thing for them,” said Wenzel.

At Appleton, Xavier overcame a slow start to cruise past the Comets.

The Hawks’ Peyton Ufi led all scorers with 15 points.

“Real sloppy the first quarter. Not the start we wanted,” Xavier coach A.C. Clouthier said. “We missed a lot of buckets. Then things started to click. We just started to make some open jump shots.”

The Hawks’ press also was a big factor as Xavier turned a 6-2 first-quarter lead into a 23-11 halftime advantage and 41-18 lead after three.

“We turned them over 22 times,” Clouthier said. “Our press looked pretty good tonight. A lot of girls got in tonight and a lot of girls contributed. It was a fun night on Senior Night.”
