Loser likely will have to hit road for first round of playoffs
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Since a 17-3 victory in 1993, Manual has lost 24 straight meetings with St. X, including 24-23 last year. The No. 4 Crimsons will try to get their offense going after managing just 172 total yards and committing five turnovers in last week’s 14-3 loss to Trinity. Quarterback Tim Comstock totaled 135 yards (83 passing, 52 rushing) but threw two interceptions and was sacked four times.
The No. 3 Tigers got touchdown runs from Noah Houk and TaiJon Smith but little else in last week’s 30-13 loss to Male. After falling behind 24-0 in the first half, St. X was forced to pass and had little success as Houk was 9 of 34 for 36 yards and three interceptions. With both defenses allowing fewer than 15 points per game, points could be at a premium.
Quotable: “I’m going to get one of those monsters one of these says,” said coach Oliver Lucas, who has a combined 0-12 record against St. X and Trinity since arriving at Manual in 2010. “I’m hell bent on that. I’m too stupid to quit trying.”
The pick: St. Xavier 10-7.
