Maranda Huibregtse scored 20 points and the Oostburg girls basketball team survived a late rally by Sheboygan Christian to escape Saturday night with a 45-42 Central Lakeshore Conference win on the road.

The Flying Dutchmen (13-5, 11-0 CLC) led by 12 points with about 6 minutes left in the game when Christian (10-5, 8-3 CLC) sparked a 9-0 run to finish the game within a few points of tying or stealing the win.

“If we could have just had a little more time,” Christian coach Paul Modahl said.

Carissa Wisse finished the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Christian teammate Jessica Lemmenes added 11 more points.

The Sheboygan Falls capped a busy week Saturday with a 42-30 decision at home against Sturgeon Bay.

Becky Raeder scored 13 points and Kim Schwobe added nine more to help push Falls (6-11) past the Clippers (4-10).

The Falcons’ defense did its part, too, holding Sturgeon Bay scoreless in the second quarter to take a 12-5 lead into halftime.

Hailey Benesh led Sturgeon Bay with eight points.

Falls coach Leroy Hamilton called it his team’s “NBA week.” His team played four games between Monday and Saturday, going 2-2 in the short span of time.

“I’ll take it,” Hamilton said of his team’s .500 showing over the last few days.

“Obviously there’s still some things to work on,” he said. “… We’re not quite there yet but we’re still working.”
