Somerset County Tournament first round

Somerville 52, Pingry 40: Melody VanNess netted 18 points, five rebounds and seven steals to help lead 14th-seeded Somerville over No. 11 Pingry in the opening round of the Somerset County Tournament. Bridget Douglas added nine points, five assists and seven rebounds, and Angelica Borja contributed eight points for the Pioneers (2-13), who will play sixth-seeded Watchung Hills in next Saturday’s second round. Corey Ransom scored 15 points and Lauren McLaughlin added nine points for the Big Blue (5-11).

Bound Brook 52, Mount St. Mary 42: Janeea Summers posted 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Kara Smiegocki added 19 points and five steals to lead 13th-seeded Bound Brook in Watchung. The Crusaders (10-5) will face fifth-seeded Ridge next Saturday. Rachel Sena netted nine points to lead 12th-seeded Mount St. Mary (5-10).

Hillsborough 50, North Plainfield 29: Allison Wickman scored 12 points and Megan Muller added 11 as 10th-seeded Hillsborough rolled into the second round. Kelly Lenkey added nine points for the Raiders (3-12), who will face seventh-seeded Immaculata next Saturday. Frankie Cherasaro scored 15 points and Desiree Johnson added four points and six rebounds for 15th-seeded North Plainfield (3-10).

Bernards 51, Manville 20: Sara Whelan posted 13 points and six rebounds, while Laura Galli added 12 points and eight steals as ninth-seeded Bernards won its first county game in at least five years, coach Sandy Whelan said. The Mountaineers (8-7), who also clinched a spot in the state tournament for the first time in over a decade, Whelan said, will face eighth-seeded Montgomery next Saturday. Julie Dankowski scored 12 points to lead No. 16 Manville.

Regular season

Hunterdon Central 35, Bridgewater-Raritan 27: Michelle Lalor scored 10 points and Kristina Benton added nine as Hunterdon Central (11-4) outscored Bridgewater-Raritan 14-4 in the fourth quarter to rally. Julia Venturelli scored 13 points to pace the Panthers (10-6).

South Hunterdon 59, Belvidere 45: Lauren McBride netted 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Aly Baggitt chimed in with 14 points and 11 boards for South Hunterdon. Rachel Knappenberger added 11 points for the Eagles (13-2), who will face Delaware Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the top spot in the Skyland Conference Valley Division on the line.

Delaware Valley 50, Warren Hills 39: Justine Doran scored 21 points and Haley Pilone added 19 as Delaware Valley (11-3) won its ninth in a row, including two straight against upper-division teams. Emily Kolonia posted 10 points to account for the rest of the Terriers’ scoring.

Gill St. Bernard’s 62, Life Center 57: Taylor Rooks went for 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Jasmine Sina helped out with 11 points and eight assists as Gill St. Bernard’s rallied, outscoring Life Center 17-8 in the fourth quarter to claim its 11th straight victory. Samantha Kramer added 10 points for the Knights, who improved to 14-2.

Piscataway 55, Middle Township 43: Kendrea Williams posted 22 points, including 19 in the second half as Piscataway won at the Hoop Mountain Shootout at Central Regional. Kiki Bynes added nine points and nine rebounds for the Chiefs, who improved to 11-3.

Sayreville 53, East Brunswick 39: Jackie Rodriguez tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to power Sayreville. Isi Enahoro added 11 points and 13 boards, while Ryane Bush chipped in 10 points for the Bombers (11-4). Dayna Sclafani scored 16 points to pace East Brunswick (11-3).

Colonia 52, Bishop Ahr 36: Madison Stanley scored 13 points and Gabby Wilson netted a career-high 12 points as Colonia defeated Bishop Ahr for the first time in more than five seasons. Simran Sangu added 11 points and Kristen Wright chipped in 10 for the Patriots (8-8). Lauren Barlow scored nine points to pace the Trojans (9-6).

J.F. Kennedy 38, Middlesex 35: Taylor Freeman netted 11 points and Rachel Andrejcak contributed eight points and 20 rebounds as J.F. Kennedy improved to 14-1. Zakiya Beckles scored 12 points to pace Middlesex (11-5).

Timothy Christian 43, New Brunswick 33: Hannah Saquian netted 13 points and Michaela Csorny added 12 to lead Timothy Christian (11-4). Destiny Betts posted 10 points and Jayda Anderson added eight for New Brunswick.

Monroe 57, A.L. Johnson 29: Erica Junquet scored 13 points and Cindy Foresta added 11 as Monroe rolled. Erin Seppi chipped in four points and 13 boards for the Falcons, who improved to 13-2.

Roselle Catholic 47, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 30: Amani Williams scored 15 points to pace Scotch Plains-Fanwood (5-11).
