GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Holmdel defeats Point Boro


Behind the strong play of junior guard Mia Ehling No. 2 Holmdel moves on to the Central Jersey Group II semifinals after defeating No. 7 Point Boro 63-53 in a quarterfinal game on Thursday night.

The Hornets (16-10) scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, as Ehling went 6-7 from the foul line to close out the game.

Senior guard Cassie Fontana scored 14 of her 17 points in the second half for the Hornets. Casey Matthijs finished with 9 points for the Hornets and went a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Sydney Coffaro also added 8 more points for the Hornets.

Senior Brielle Barber scored a game-high 28 points for the Panthers (15-11), erupting for 17 in the fourth quarter. Brianna Skinner also added 6 points for the Panthers.


MANASQUAN 52, DELRAN 28: Marina Mabrey finished with a game-high 13 points leading the fourth-seeded Warriors over the fifth-seeded Bears in a Central Jersey Group II quarterfinal. Sam Sullivan scored nine for the Warriors and Bridget Ford and Chiara Palombi both added seven more.

The fourth-seeded Warriors will play at top-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven on Saturday in a CJ III semifinal game.

COLTS NECK 62, BRICK MEMORIAL 42: Lauren Zborovancik finished with a game-high 23 points leading the third-seeded Cougars over the sixth-seeded Mustangs in Central Jersey Group IV action.

Lindsey Bosland also added 19 points for the Cougars who will play seventh-seeded Monroe in a Central Group IV semifinal on Saturday.

ST. ROSE 77, WILDWOOD CATHOLIC 45: The fifth-seeded Purple Roses exploded for 47 points in the second half in their Non-Public South B quarterfinal win.

Kat Phipps finished with a team-high 26 points, and Cindy Napolitano also added 16 more for the Purple Roses who will play top-seeded Roselle Catholic on Saturday.

MONROE 54, MARLBORO 37: Haley Unger finished with a team-high 14 points as the Mustangs fell to Faclons in a Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinal game. Erica Junquet finished with a game-high 15 points for the Falcons.

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN 51, MATAWAN 43: Stephanie Lesko finished with a team-high 13 points leading the top-seeded Bulldogs over the ninth-seeded Huskies in a Central Jersey Group II semifinal. Grace Stant scored 12 points for the Bulldogs and Nicole Morris added 10 more.

Colleen Branagan and Tracey Brereton each scored 18 points for the Huskies.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 43, WEST WINDSOR NORTH 27: Harlie Kneler scored a game-high 14 points leading the top-seeded Patriots over Knights in a Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinal game.

Samantha Famulare scored 11 and Victoria Wagner added 10 more for the Patriots who will play No. 5 Hunterdon Central in a semifinal game on Saturday.
