Girls basketball roundup: Kiel rolls by Plymouth, CGB downs Oostburg

Plymouth’s girls basketball team had a chance to earn a piece of the Eastern Wisconsin Conference title. Kiel wasn’t interested in obliging.

The Raiders jumped out on the Panthers from the onset and cruised to a 72-50 home victory Thursday night.

EWC-leading Two Rivers lost at Waupun on Thursday, putting both those teams at 11-3 to end the EWC season. Plymouth could have joined them with a victory.

Instead, Kiel (13-8, 9-4) outscored Plymouth (13-9, 10-4) in each of the four quarters.

Cassie Schweitzer poured in 17 points, Maddie Dahmer had 14 and Jeana Fale added 10 for the Raiders.

Olivia Jankowski scored 12 points while Nikki Reil had 10 for Plymouth.

Leading 15-12 after the first quarter, Sheboygan Falls (8-14, 6-8 EWC) was outscored 17-7 in the second quarter and couldn’t recover in the home loss to Campbellsport (8-12, 5-8).

Becky Raeder led the Falcons with 15 points and teammate Kim Schwobe added 10.

New Holstein (6-15, 3-11 EWC) had 19 points from Karli Fannin while Tori Zipperer added 15 points and Jenna Meyer 14 in the home win over Kewaskum (3-19, 0-14).

The Huskies also had 14 points from Jenne Meyer as they jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and fought off several Warriors comeback attempts.

New Holstein was 18-of-26 on free throws while Waupun went 2-for-8.

Ashli von Heimburg scored a game-high 22 points with six 3-pointers as host Cedar Grove-Belgium closed the door on Oostburg’s shot at perfection in the Central Lakeshore Conference.

Lydia Legler had 14 points and AJ Caldwell added 10 for the Rockets (10-12, 6-8 CLC), who managed to overcome the nine made 3-pointers by the Flying Dutchmen (16-6, 13-1).

For Oostburg, Maranda Huibregtse had 12 points and teammate Kimberly VanStelle added 10.

No players reached double figures for the Resorters; Ashley Pfeifer, Mariah Ausloos and Camrie Schmitz each had eight points.

Kyleigh Bullard paced the Rams with 10 points.
