Girls basketball roundup: Valders' Buck scores 1,000th point in loss to Reedsville (Updated)

Danelle Buck gave the Valders faithful something to cheer for on Thursday despite the Vikings girls basketball team falling to Reedsville 42-30 when she scored the 1,000th point of her career in the fourth quarter.

Buck finished with a game-high 13 points but scored the milestone point on a driving pull up jumper over the Panthers’ defense.

“She works so hard for everything she gets,” said Valders’ coach Dan Wagner of his standout senior. “We’ve struggled for the last two years so its been easier for teams to focus on stopping her but it hasn’t slowed her down.

“Everything she scored tonight was off her own work, whether it was a rebound or a steal. I’m proud to coach her.”

Wagner also credited Reedsville coach Paul Ourada for his sportsmanship in allowing the home fans to celebrate the accomplishment during the game.

For the Panthers, Riley Grimm and Shelby Otto each scored a team-high 11 points while Lauren Holschbach added 10 of her own.
