Girls basketball: SJ Vianney defeats RB Catholic


Sophomore guard Kelly Campbell scored all six of her points in the third quarter as the host St. John Vianney girls basketball team wiped out a one-point halftime deficit and went on to a 52-38 win over Red Bank Catholic on Monday night in an NJSIAA Non-Public South A semifinal.

The 14-5 third quarter showing by the No. 2 seed Lancers (23-4) gave them a 39-31 lead.

Senior guard Jackie Gallagher had six points on two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as St. John Vianney pulled away from Red Bank Catholic (19-9).

Gallagher had a game-high 12 points and four steals. Sophomore guard Emily Uribe added 10 points and five assists. Campbell had seven rebounds and four steals.

Junior guard Alex Barazotti led the No. 3 seed Caseys with 11 points.

It was the third time St. John Vianney defeated its arch-rival this season.

St. John Vianney will meet No. 5 seed Gloucester Catholic at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson Liberty in the Non-Public South A championship game. The Non-Public A championship game is Saturday at Pine Belt Arena on the campus of Toms River High School North.
