Beacon High School committed itself to defense and got monstrous games from star players to defeat host Arlington 70-48 in a girls basketball game on Tuesday in Freedom Plains.
Saint Peter’s University-bound Talah Hughes had 26 points, 20 rebounds and five steals for the Bulldogs (8-1), and Leandra Echi added 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
“She is such a talented basketball player,” Dahl said of Hughes. “She stepped up today and led the team both offensively and defensively and did a great job on the boards.”
Not to be overshadowed, Echi had a strong performance as well.
“I’m just happy to have an opportunity to coach them,” Dahl said.
Beacon was coming off its first loss of the season, 60-59 to Mahopac on Saturday.
“Coming off the loss to Mahopac, we had some things we needed to work on,” Dahl said. “Our goal was to execute defensively. We moved the ball very well offensively.”
