Ursuline is chasing perfection in 2014.
Since the beginning of the calendar year, the Koalas are undefeated. The team continued its winning streak with a 58-54 victory over visiting Scarsdale Thursday.
Ursuline clinched the League II-A regular season title for the third consecutive year and looks to continue its success going into the playoffs.
“We’ve had some injuries in December, which led to our shaky start,” coach Beth Wooters said about the early season turmoil. “It’s just been a matter of being able to settle down and trying to out-work our opponents.”
Anna Savino led the Koalas with 18 points and 12 rebounds after scoring 12 points in Ursuline’s win at White Plains Tuesday. Teammate Casey Friend has consistently contributed to the offense with 13 points in each of the past two games.
Ursuline’s starting five has been the key to the New Year success. In addition to Savino and Friend, Rianna Peduzzzi and Korina Guerra have proven to be valuable assets.
“We are striving to reach our potential, and I don’t think we are there yet,” Wooters said. “We are still working to be mentioned with the Ossinings, Clarktown Norths and North Rocklands of the section. We want to be with that group.”
