Girls soccer roundup: Roncalli tops Lincoln in non-conference battle

By

The Roncalli girls soccer team slipped past visiting Manitowoc Lincoln by a count of 2-1 on Friday night.

Andrea Vaca put the Jets on the board with a goal in the 27th minute off a corner kick from Lauren Clark.

That score held until the 47th minute when Clark converted on a penalty kick to put Roncalli up by two.

Christina Maser put the Ships back within one with her goal in the 66th minute. However, Lincoln was unable to find the equalizer.

Shots on goal were at a premium as each defense seemed up to the challenge.

Hailey Augustine stopped nine shots for the Ships, while Roncalli’s Abby Bouril made five saves.

“They have really put their minds to having a better season,” Roncalli head coach Donna Hodous said. “It was a battle of two tough defenses. Both teams played very well.”

Sheb. Lutheran 2, Valders 1

The host Vikings were locked in a scoreless tie at halftime with the Crusaders before being edged in the second half.

Sheboygan got the scoring started in the 44th minute but Valders’ Sydney Gutman answered a minute later to level the score at 1-1.

With the game winding down, it was the Crusaders who found the back of the net in the 75th minute to hand the Vikings the loss.
