Girls soccer: Valders tops Sturgeon Bay

Valders’ Amanda Miller scored a hat-trick to help the Vikings defeat Sturgeon Bay 4-0 on Thursday. It was the first time Valders has knocked off Sturgeon Bay in its history.

“I have a lot of respect for their coach and their program so I am very proud of my girls for finally beating them,” said Vikings’ coach Brian Brandl.

Miller struck first in the 11th minute before adding goals in the 46th and 53rd minutes.

The final goal for Valders game on a penalty kick in the 79th by Sydney Gutman after teammate Morgan Kelly was taken down in the penalty box. Both Gutman and Kelly would tally an assist.

Goalkeeper Alena Braun made 17 saves for the Vikings.

The host Ships trailed 1-0 at halftime but succumbed to a potent Golden Raiders attack in the second half.
