WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) — This is coach Randy Trivers’ first season with the Gonzaga football team. USA Today ranked Gonzaga No. 25 in the Super 25 preseason football rankings.
Trivers said it is great that the football program is highly ranked, but there’s still a lot of work to do.
“I don’t want to celebrate before the season starts,” Trivers said.
He said the team has been working very hard and are committed. Trivers said everyone is learning.
“We are working on team togetherness,” he said. “It’s a pleasure to see these guys come together.”
Trivers said Gonzaga has a challenging schedule this season, but also has a strong senior class that is acting as leadership.
He said seniors Sean Fitzgerald, Richie Petitbon, Sammy Morrison and Jabari Greenwood are strong captains for the team.
“We will focus week to week on games,” Trivers said.
Trivers said the team had to adjust to not having a practice or playing field, but everyone is excited for the upcoming season.
“These guys are resilient and have great, positive attitudes,” he said.
Gonzaga’s first game is at 7 p.m., Aug. 29 at Neshaminy (Pa.).
