RED WING, Minn. – A Gopher great is now at the helm in Red Wing. Ricky Foggie is entering his first year as head football coach.
“I’m happy to be here,” he says. “We’re asking the kids to come out to practice and give it 400 percent.”
Foggie, played quarterback for the University of Minnesota from 1984 to 1987 and graduated still holding several offensive records.
Prior to taking over in Red Wing, Foggie was the head coach at Park Center.
“This is a great community,” says Foggie. “That’s one of the main reasons I took the job. I want to bring the excitement back to Red Wing.”
He’ll have his hands full, the Wingers move from the Missota Conference to the Big 9 which includes Rochester’s big high schools.
“We will be competitive I can guarantee that,” he says. “We’re having fun and the guys are working hard.”
Foggie will rely heavily on Gopher recruit Nick Connelly, a 270-pound lineman.
