KUSA – After winning a state championship a year ago, the Grandview Wolves opened their season with a gritty 3-2 victory against one of the other top teams in the state, Regis.
The Wolves jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and looked as if they were going to sweep the Raiders, after defeating them 25-19 and 25-17 in the first two sets, but the Raiders fought back and won the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21.
With the momentum shifting and Regis looking like they were going to upset the defending state champs, Grandview regrouped and jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the final set, forcing Regis to call a timeout. Shortly after, the Wolves finished things off, winning the fifth set 15-9.
Grandview will play at Cheyenne Mountain next on Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. and Regis will host Green Mountain Friday at 2 p.m.
