Carl Laroe of BFA-St. Albans converted a power play chance in the third period to lift the Harris Conference boys to a 3-2 win over the Austin Conference in the 30th Annual Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic on Saturday.
Laroe, chosen as the Harris team MVP, tallied off assists from U-32’s Andrew Danyew and Mount Mansfield’s Ben Hoar.
BFA’s Brady Walsh and Champlain Valley’s Patrick Pattison also scored to give Harris a 2-1 lead after two periods. Nick Berno (BFA), Ross Delabruere (North Country), Will Bernicke (CVU) and Ryan Heath (MMU) also had assists.
Rutland’s Max Major, the Austin Conference MVP, and Colchester’s Ryan Francis scored. South Burlington’s Matt Baechle and Gabe Simpatico, Essex’s Brody Almeida and Colchester’s Matty Cuce notched assists.
In the Harris net, Spaulding’s Ben Ferland made 15 saves and Brattleboro’s Greg DiSilva stopped 10 shots.
Brock Paquette of Essex had nine saves and Lyndon’s Deryck Colburn finished with 10 saves for the Austin squad.
* Harris Conference 4, Austin Conference 1: BFA-St. Albans’ Dani Schreiner had a hand in every Harris Conference goal and struck twice in the third period to seal the victory.
Schreiner, named the Harris MVP, assisted on her team’s first two goals before scoring twice and turning a 2-1 lead to a 4-1 game.
Harwood’s Katie Martin and Taylor Yandow (two assists) netted the other two goals. BFA’s Sydney Chadwick and Chelsea Ellis each had two assists.
Crystal Moss recorded an unassisted goal for the Austin Conference to earn the team’s MVP award.
BFA’s Marina Nadeau (four saves), Brattleboro’s Alex Fellows (nine saves) and Harwood’s Siena Damon (three saves) split time in net for the Harris team.
U-32’s Cheyenne Smith (seven saves), Colchester’s Erica Hoffman (five saves) and Stowe’s Danielle Mayo (two saves) shared goaltending duties for the Austin squad.
