Brady Harrington’s layup helped visiting Whitney Point edge Chenango Forks, 55-52, on Tuesday a nonleague boys basketball game.
With the game tied at 52, Harrington hit an off-balance layup to give the visitors a two-point lead with 30 seconds remaining.
After a Forks player was unable to connect on a shot, Whitney Point’s Zach Marsh hit one of two free throws to give his team the three-point lead. The Blue Devils missed a three pointer at the buzzer.
Gabe Shrauger scored 30 points and Marsh added 17 for the Golden Eagles (11-2), who are ranked 24th in Class B according to the New York Sportswriters Association. Harrington finished with 8 points.
Andrew Ziegenfus scored 15 points to go along with 18 rebounds and Trevor Borchardt tallied 16 points for CF (3-8).
Hancock 50, Harpursville 44: At Hancock, Eli Holton scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 5 assists as the Wildcats held off the Hornets in a Midstate Athletic Conference game.
Harpursville went up 30-28 with 6:20 left in the third, but Hancock fought back to take a 35-33 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Wildcats scored the first five points of the fourth, with Lewis Hall’s 3-pointer with six minutes left giving them a 40-33 lead. The Hornets never got closer than five the rest of the way.
Zack Worobey scored 10 points for Hancock. Jon Andrews led Harpursville with 16.
Harpursville 69, Hancock 27: At Hancock, Miranda Drummond scored 28 points, leading the undefeated Hornets to a rout over the Wildcats in a MAC game.
Shelby Medovich added 12 points for Harpursville (14-0, 10-0 MAC), which is currently the top-ranked Class C team in the state.
Caitlyn Wormuth and Jessica Worzel scored five points each to lead Hancock (5-9, 3-5 MAC).
Deposit 52, Walton 25: At Deposit, Haley Linkeroum scored a season-high 22 points to lead Deposit (4-11) to a Midstate Athletic Conference Victory. Linkeroum added eight steals and three assists while Catherine Bush scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Janine Velardi scored a team-high 10 points for Walton (0-15).
Windsor 64, Chenango Valley 20: At Windsor, Austin Orshal pinned Robert Woodward in 5 minutes, 11 seconds in the 182-pound bout for the Black Knights.
Orshal, who finished fifth in last season’s Sectionals, was up 5-0 early in the third period before scoring an escape, a takedown and then the pinfall.
At 170, CV’s Reed Grunder was up 4-2 in the third, then scored a late takedown and pin on Noah Zakrajsek.
At 145, Windsor’s Gabriel Zakrajsek was up 1-0 in the third when CV’s Steve Alyward got a two-point reverse and was able to ride out the win.
Deposit/Hancock 63, Sidney 12: At Deposit, 113-pound Stephen McKee scored his school-record 143rd victory with a pin in 1:32 over David Gannon.
In a battle of the top two heavyweights in the MAC, D/H’s Dan Babcock scored a takedown on Austin Dean in the final minute of the match to win, 8-6.
