CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harding University girls basketball opened its season with a victory Friday, holding off Garinger High School 54-49.

The Lady Rams established a 20-13 lead following the first quarter. Entering the fourth quarter, Harding led 52-40. Garinger’s defense slowed down the Harding offense, but were unable to rally all the way back before falling by five.

Harding had two girls reach double-figures. The sophomore duo of Shereka McNeill (28) and Shemeka McNeill (23) combined for 51 points in the game. Super sophomore Jasmine Sanders led the charge for Garinger with 35 points. Harding’s Trinity Russell led the Rams with seven rebounds in the contest.
