Henderson County Post 77 will try to stave off elimination in the American Legion playoffs after a hard-to-swallow loss Thursday night.

Henderson was ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning at Gastonia Post 23 when the home team pushed across a pair of runs to take a 6-5 win.

Garrett Lowery’s RBI single was the final blow in the rally, giving Gastonia (13-7) a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Post 77 (11-14) only had four hits, but three different pitchers kept Henderson in the game.

Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at East Henderson.
