LENOIR, N.C. — Dan Prouty has been named the new head wrestling coach at Hibriten High School. Prouty comes to Hibriten after spending last season as the varsity boys soccer coach at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville. Prouty will also teach social studies at Hibriten in addition to his athletic responsibilities.
Prouty, a North Wilkes alumni, won a state championship in wrestling and is happy to be back coaching the sport he loves. Prouty was the 1A-2A state champion at 112 pounds in 2004. He then coached wrestling at East Wilkes High School for three seasons, and was an assistant wrestling coach at Alexander Central.
Prouty coached three wrestlers who reached the state finals in wrestling. Cody Mathis made school history in 2013 when he won the first wrestling state championship in East Wilkes history. Two others–Zack Faircloth and Zach Prevette each won over 100 matches in their career under Prouty.
