The Lady Bulls will face Sun Valley Tuesday in the consolation bracket.
CONCORD, N.C. — In a non-conference tournament battle, the Hickory Ridge Lady Bulls defeated the Concord Lady Spiders 51-43 Monday at the PDQ Holiday Classic.
With the winner of the game being eliminated from championship contention in the tournament, this game was a good opportunity for both teams to get an extra game against a conference foe. Back on December 3, Hickory Ridge defeated Concord 47-27 at Concord, so the Spiders knew they would face a tall task.
When play started, both teams appeared ready for a tough game. The Bulls and Spiders went toe-to-toe throughout the first, with the Bulls pulling out to a 12-8 lead after the quarter. As play entered the second quarter, Concord’s offense found its groove, outscoring Hickory Ridge 13-12 to draw within three going into the locker room.
The third quarter set the stage for a crucial fourth quarter, with each team scoring 10 after the half. Hickory Ridge did just what they needed down the stretch, making their free throws to pull away to the eight-point victory.
The Lady Bulls were led by Jiera Shears’ 16 points. Laura McManimen and Gabby Smith each scored 11 for Tolonda Simmons’ team. Concord’s leading scorers were Jalliyah Cannady and Rachel Privette with eight points apiece.
