Jackson High of Ryle High School received high marks in his recent trips to a national camp and competition.
High, a sophomore from Union, competed at Football University’s Top Gun, July 17-19 at the Dublin Jerome High School, Dublin, Ohio. Being a part of Top Gun means that these players are the best at their respective positions, according to a release. He was invited to TOP GUN because of his performance as a linebacker at the FBU Nashville camp. He joined more than 800 of the nation’s other top athletes at their respective positions and will train with current and former NFL players and coaches.
Jackson High received high honors at FBU Top Gun and is hoping to make the Army All-American Combine team.
According to a release, he received praise from the following coaches: Coach Steve Szabo said he was “quick and has impeccable work ethic”; coach Liam Ezekial called him a leader who possesses great character and coach Emmanuel King said he was “easily coached and definitely a student of the game.”
Top Gun is the culmination of Football University’s 30-camp nationwide tour gathering the most elite performers from across the United States and allowing them to compete and display their abilities together on one stage.
High also attended USA Football’s National Team Games July 21-26 at Towson University, Md., along with more than 180 incoming freshmen and sophomores. He earned a roster spot on Team Silver and impressed his position coaches as well as his head coach.
“What can I say about this young man? He led the team in tackles during the Jamboree as a to-be sophomore,” said Coach P in a news release. Added Coach C in the release, “He is exactly the kind of athlete we seek for Team USA character, commitment and integrity.”
High now has the chance to earn a roster spot on the U.S. National Team that will compete against Canada in the 2015 International Bowl, scheduled for February in Dallas.
