MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — A St. Thomas Academy sophomore is recovering faster than expected after collapsing following football practice Friday evening, according to the school’s headmaster.

In a statement released Monday, the school’s headmaster wrote, “While it is too soon to speculate as to the cause of the collapse, it appears as if the incident is unrelated to football-specific activity. The quick action of the coaches and training staff, along with the presence of the proper medical equipment, including an AED, ensured the best possible course of treatment for our student.”

The student’s name has not been released, and he remains in the hospital for treatment.
