Mark your calendars. Here is a look at the top five regular season high school football games in Central Indiana for the 2014 season:
Aug. 22, Cathedral at Ben Davis
Despite winning consecutive state championships, Cathedral has lost to Ben Davis each of the last three seasons (by a combined 12 points). The Giants might be the best Class 6A team in the state.
Aug. 22, Brebeuf Jesuit vs. Bishop Chatard, at Lucas Oil Stadium
Brebeuf posted its first victory over Chatard since 1976 in last year’s opener. The Braves are loaded for another deep run in Class 3A.
Sept. 5, Center Grove at Carmel
Center Grove ended a five-game losing streak last year in the Copper Kettle rivalry but a loss to Warren Central in the semistate prevented a rematch in the Class 6A state title game.
Sept. 12, Fishers at Hamilton Southeastern
With the realignment of the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, this rivalry game has been pushed back two weeks in the season. Fishers won 51-31 last year in a game that spanned two days due to a nasty storm.
Oct. 10, Carmel at Warren Central
This has become the area’s hottest rivalry, the latest showdown a 7-6 Warren Central win in last year’s 6A championship. The last nine games have been decided by a total of 41 points, including three overtime games.
