High school football season set to begin

North central Ohio’s high school football teams swing into action tonight and our sports staff is ready for the action.

We’ll have in-game updates from a number of area games tonight and every Friday night this season. Just go to http://www.MansfieldNewsJournal.com/gamenight on your computer, look for the Game Night feed on our mobile and tablet apps or follow #njhss on Twitter.

The schedule offers a variety of interesting contests.

Mansfield Senior travels to Big Walnut as the Tygers look to follow-up on last year’s perfect regular season and Ohio Cardinal Conference championship.

Madison will be at W.W. Skiles Field to take on Shelby and Ontario is at Lexington in a couple of Richland County classics. The scoreboard operator will be busy when Fredericktown plays at Clear Fork as two high-powered offenses collide.

Lucas plays host to Plymouth and East Knox is at Crestview to round out the Richland County schedule.

A notable tilt also takes place at Crestline where the Bulldogs will open their new facility after playing for decades at Huston Stadium.

The rest of the schedule includes Wadsworth at Ashland, Willard at Margaretta, new London at Buckeye Central, Bucyrus at Galion, Colonel Crawford at Mount Gilead, Liberty-Benton at Wynford, Highland at Loudonville, Chippewa at Mapleton, South Central at Seneca East, Riverdale at Cardington and Hillsdale at Akron Manchester.
