KHSAA verifying records on Scott County’s Hicks

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association is researching the record of Scott County boys’ basketball coach Billy Hicks, but has ruled his record was 0-26 his first season at Evarts (1978-79).

Hicks’ personal records show he won 10 games that season, but the KHSAA records show Evarts had to forfeit all of its wins from that season for using ineligible players.

The KHSAA also is trying to verify Hicks’ records during the 1982-83 season at Evarts and four seasons at Corbin (1991-95).

The KHSAA lists Hicks’ current career record as 838-244, leaving him 18 victories shy of the all-time state record held by Central’s William Kean (856-83).

Hicks claims his record is 857-234, one victory ahead of Kean.
